"Changing
the world of entertainment one story at a time" L.E.G. was created in 2001 by writer/director Layon Gray. Under this banner he has created Dorothy Spellman Films, PrettyBoy FIlms, The Los Angeles African American Repertory Company, The Black Gents Of Hollywood, and Karrie Moore Casting. Since its creation the company has won numerous awards in theatre, and has produced several films independently. L.E.G, creates projects from within, but is always on the lookout for exciting new screen and stage plays. WHATS THE DEAL WITH LAYON? Only a resident of California for a few years, he has quickly risen as one of Los Angeles premiere playwrights winning 3 Artistic Director Achievement Awards 2003 for Best Director, Best Play, and Best Author for his critically acclaimed play “MEET ME AT THE OAK”. He also won 2 Maddy Awards for “Oak…” which included Best Playwright, and Best Director. In 2005 he won an ADA Award for “DIARY OF A CATHOLIC SCHOOL DROPOUT” for best play in Los Angeles, and was also nominated for a 2005 NAACP AWARD for “DIARY…” and his military drama “SOLDIERS DON’T CRY”. THE GIRLS OF SUMMER received (6) ADA Nominations 2005 and was nominated for (4) NAACP Awards 2006 - taking home an award for Best Play. In 2001 he formed LAYON ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, which is the umbrella company for DOROTHY SPELLMAN FILMS, PRETTY BOY PICTURES, and the new LOS ANGELES AFRICAN AMERICAN REPERTORY COMPANY. He has written and directed several films—and is currently in pre-production with three of his feature films – "VIRGINS OF VENICE", “IN SEARCH OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE”, “BREAUX BRIDGE”, which will be shot in Louisiana and the film version of “DIARY OF A CATHOLIC SCHOOL DROPOUT” to be shot in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Cannes France. He has directed plays such as “FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE WHEN THE RAINBOW IS ENUF, FENCES, BEFORE IT HITS HOME, A SOLDIER’S PLAY, MISS EVERS BOYS, MEDAL OF HONOR RAG, A RAISIN IN THE SUN, STEEL MAGNOLIAS”, just to name a few. Layon is currently putting the finishing touches to his epic play “AMERICAN SOUTH” – a true story set during slavery in Louisiana about his mother’s side of the family, and “BLACK ANGELS OVER TUSKEGEE”, scheduled to open September 27th at the Whitmore Lindley Theater in North Hollywood.
